March 2026 Individual Tax Calendar: Deadlines You Can't Ignore

While April 15th gets all the attention, March is often the make-or-break month for a smooth tax season. From our headquarters in Rolla to our clients facing enforcement actions in Dallas and San Diego, we know that waiting until the last minute is a strategy for stress, not success. Here are the critical dates for March 2026.

March 10: Tip Reporting Deadline

For service industry professionals—especially those in hospitality hubs like Orlando—accurate reporting is essential to avoiding an audit trail. If you received more than $20 in tips during February, you must report them to your employer by March 10 using IRS Form 4070.

This report should include your name, SSN, employer details, and the total tips received. Your employer uses this to withhold the necessary FICA and income taxes. If your regular wages can’t cover the withholding, the uncollected amount will appear in box 8 of your W-2, requiring you to pay it when you file your annual return. Do not ignore this; underreporting income is a primary trigger for IRS scrutiny.

March 16: The Strategic Appointment Deadline

Since March 15 falls on a Sunday in 2026, Monday the 16th marks the unofficial "one month warning" before the individual filing deadline. If you haven't scheduled your preparation appointment, do so immediately.

Don't wait until you have every single receipt organized. At Dixson Tax Resolution Services, we prefer to start with what you have. We can identify missing items and create a checklist for you. If you are facing complex issues or need to file an extension, we must prepare a preliminary return now to estimate your liability. Remember, an extension to file is not an extension to pay. Proper planning now saves you from failure-to-pay penalties later.

Standard Rules & Disaster Relief

If a due date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, it moves to the next business day. Additionally, if you are in a designated disaster area—common for our clients in coastal regions—dates may be extended automatically.
